trans-Resveratrol induces apoptosis via the mitochondrial pathway. a MCF-7 cells were treated for 24 h with 50 μg/ml trans-resveratrol, washed and stained with propidium iodide. Analysis of cell cycle and apoptosis was performed by a FACScalibur instrument and percentages of staining-positive cells were calculated using WinMDI version 2.8 software. The cell cycle plots reported are from a typical experiment done in triplicate out of five that gave similar results (sub-G1, apoptotic cells). A table indicating the percentages of nuclei in the different phases of cell cycle is shown at the bottom. b MCF-7 cells were treated for 18 h with 50 μg/ml trans-resveratrol; 20 μg of cytosolic extracts were loaded onto each lane for the detection of cytochrome c or pro-caspase-9 (inactive) and caspase-9 (active) protein levels. β-actin was used as loading control. Immunoblots are from one experiment representative of three that gave similar results
